Me and my son took the Vette out for ride today, he drove. We were about 2 miles from home, and the front right tire blew out. Now I'm 60+, and when I was young tires blew out all the time, but this was the worst I've ever seen. The tire disintegrated. I guess they are dry rotted, can you still buy 16" tires, if so what would you guys recommend, thanks Jim.
i bought a set of falkens from discount tire direct, and was/am very happy with them.they sent them out the same day,and i got them the next day!free shipping too.just google discount tire direct,or you might check out that 'auction' site (thats where i got mine)
Go with the BFG G Force Sports. The come in the 255/50-16 for your 87. I just bought mine from discount tire online. No shipping charge. BTW i also have an 87. Good luck. There was a post back in the summer on old tires. It was pretty amazing what dry rot can do. Can't wait to drive my new treads after the Colorado winter is over.

I would also go with the BFG G-Force tires. You can go to the Tire Rack website and search by tire size and you will get a few brands. Discount Tire has the same online type of search by size.
Tires will dry out after time and start to crack. Figure on 5-6 years for longevity before tires start to dry out and crack. Then it's only a matter of time before a tire goes flat or comes apart. At least you weren't out on the freeway doing 75
