I'm really considering 2-tone seats for my '87 (currently medium grey). My seats are in very very good condition so I thought about dying the bolsters of the seats black and leave the middle grey. Anyone have experience with dying seats... does it look good ..... does it last? Sure would be cheaper than $1,300 for new covers but if it isn't going to look right then maybe it would be worth spending the money.... thoughts appreciated.

Here is a possible option. I took the original seats and had the insets put in the middle. So these seats are the original seat bolsters with added insets. It had this done for $600. That included the new leather and labor. Good luck with your decision.

I dunno man...I'm a big fan of the 84-87 medium gray color (that silvery shine). I just redid my whole interior in stock color.

I didn't dye the seats, but the panels and sills I did. It seams to hold up well, but then again, I'm not sittin' on 'em.

If your seats are in very good condition, I'd recommend leaving them alone. It's very hard to dye seats and have them come out good and stay good looking. (ok, hard, but not impossible). You might want to consider covers. If the interior was rough, I'd give a different answer.

Another option might be to contrast the leather with the carpets.

the before

and the after

i had a local chop that does lear jet restorations do the set for me using a very high grade leather and seat heaters

i wouldn't recommend the dying i myself haven't seen much with two tone but you could always try it first it sure would be cheaper.

My car is Sebring Silver, with grey interior. Very bland. The only thing black was the center console, dash, and part of the door panels.
I decided to go two tone, then decided to do three instead. Black, grey and charcoal grey. I purchased some iggee seat covers, two tone charcoal grey and black to match the floor mats and dash cover my bf bought me last Christmas, black sill covers, and just purchased a black cargo mat with a silver ring and red insignia. I like the look, it breaks up the bleakness, but still have the original carpeting.
I have the pic before I put the cargo mat in, as the weather hasnt permitted me to take one since I have done that, but here is what it looks like right now.
