More than Flat
I had to use the Vette's spare tire. What a PITA that was. Who the heck ever designed that spare tire carrier?
Luckaly, I had taken the spare down about a year and a half ago to check it out. It still had about 45lbs of air, enough to let me get home.
New tread is gonna cost $159 plus mounting & balance, not too bad. Rotten end to a great day.

I always keep my temp spare in good order. I check on it at least twice a year.
21 years old, but all I ask is that it get me back to civilization if not home at a reasonable speed.
It also plays a role in rear-end collision protection.
Pretty soon you'll hear from the "Fix-a-Flat/AAA" guys that have removed their spares.
To each his own.

I know what you mean about PITA.
On the 2007 Power Tour, I had a flat just before getting to Kalamazoo, MI. In a cold a** rain no less.
And of course, as you know with the car loaded for a week long trip getting to the jack is not fun either. By the time I got the tire changed, I was soaking wet.
But my spare was good, and I drove about 2 miles to a tire center where they fixed the flat and had me back on the road. I was lucky, no tire damage.
PS: The shop was actually closed, and they were there just watching the Power Tour go by.
They fixed me up, no charge. Of course, I insisted on a nice tip for them.
