Default Optispark Install With Pics

I installed optispark again and thought I would snap few pics on how I did it for you guys. Keep in mind this is for 94.

Tools needed.

Flathead screwdriver MAF housing
14mm socket for 6 water pump bolts and 2 coil bolts.
16mm socket for 3 crank pulley bolts and pulley belt tension.
Swivel and extension for water pump.
Needle nose pliers for radiator peacock.
C clamp for hoses.

Drive the Car on boards.

Disconnect the battery.

Jack Up the front. I use a board and jack stands.

Drain the coolant.

Maf housing and sensors.

Maf out of way and fuel rail cover.

Radiator hoses came next. I used a C clamp to remove them.

I remove the coil so water pump gets out easier.

Water pump off.

Taking belt off and removing crank pulley same time.

Crank pulley off and optispark.

Very Cool. I removed mine this past weekend and hope to get her back together this coming. I have a new opti on her way and an MSD vented cap/rotor kit to add to it.

You might want to consider doing a tb bypass while you have the coolant drained. Replace the upper rad hose with one for the '95 (AC/Del #24408L) and the heater hose pump-to-surge tank with that from a '95 (AC/Del #18140L). Then a couple caps for the tb open ports and it all makes for a nice, clean install.

Very good job.

Need to finish it now....

Last night I was looking for a detailed write up with pictures on a 1.6 rr swap. I couldnt believe I could not find one with it being such a popular mod. I guess I may have to be the first. Same goes with a cam swap. There was one with good pictures but there were several steps/pictures and detailed info missing.

Actually its finished runs great just repeat the steps if installing. Once you get the maf sensor and hoses out of the way. You will see how easy it is. I think its more of pain in the *** to install spark plugs.

Since I've done it before my crank pulley can wobble off by hand.

nice job, one thing I always do though is to THROW those damn stock clamps out and get some screw type one. I have dealing with those things nothing but a PITA.

Great pics...Thanks for sharing...How much did the MSD ignition coil set you back? Is it a direct replacement? Easy to install?
Thanks

Cost me $45 and you have to drill the old coil out of the bracket.

Funny how different we are. Had a service station replace my radiator with a new GM radiator last summer, and boy was I pissed when I saw those worm screw hose clamps used. I paid a huge premium for the factory clamps to straighten out the mess he made. (The clamps are hard to find and were $35.)
I like keeping the car original, but the NCRS sickness makes me that way!

I used to hate the factory style clamps but have grown to like them, once mastered, they are much quicker and you never have to guess about them being the right tension. They are much easier to use if you have these:
