Fall?! If youve got the money....get yer butt out there and shop now.

Good lord...this is the best buyers market you can get. Besides, youll have this season to play with it. Also....swap meets out the wazoo if you need some bits and pieces to doll it up.

You can swim in the sea of 80's C4's for sale. Plenty of nice cars, and if you find a REAL nice one for a few hundred more. Thats the one you want. It will be WAY cheaper in the long run.

But "Fall"?? Please.

If you wait untill summer or fall you will pay at least 1k to 2K more or even more than that. These are summer cars and the price goes up in the peak driving time. If you can swing it go now, if not wait until next december. IMHO

My 84 has the 4+3. It can be driven as a 4 speed if you choose. If you leave the OD on it will shift into OD in 2, 3, and 4 gear. Or you can wait until you get to 4 and flip the switch.
What it really cool is to have someone with you on the freeway in fourth, kick the accelerator, the car will kick out of OD automatically. Then you will have to engage it again. Unless you nail it you can drive it around all the time with the OD on and not have to engage it again. With the OD in use I get 18 mpg. Without it (as a 4 speed ) I get 16 mpg. So it does help a little on mileage. This is city driving. I haven't checked hwy mpg.

We got our 85, with the 4+3, last April. It had a problem with going into overdrive in third gear, without the button being pushed. Fortunately there is a transmission shop in our area that is owned by someone who has an 84 with the 4+3. I sent it in and the found a problem with one of the switches in the overdrive. The button was on the console for the 84 year only. It was changed to the shifter in 85. I use mine as a 4 speed and then go into the OD when I settle on the speed. I've also been told you can use the over drive in 2nd and 3rd in traffic situation where you want lower RPMs.

Good luck

Mike , Mine is an early 1985 wth the overdrive button on the console. I use the car as mainly a 4 speed. A VERY STRONG 4 speed by the way. If I want to use the overdrive in any of the top 3 gears, I just push the clutch in and switch the button on. Always use the clutch when you switch to overdrive or out of overdrive. This was one of the biggest reasons why some people had trouble with their overdrive units as well as not changing fluids on schedule. Using the clutch engages the overdrive very easily and very smoothly. I do think that most of us with the 4+3 only use the overdrive after shifting to 4th gear on the open highway. It really drops the rpm's and makes for a smooth drive. If I want to pass someone, I just push the accelerator down and the overdrive kicks off automatically until I level off at the speed I want to be at, and then re-engages itself automatically. One cool thing is that you can go through the first four gears, switch the overdrive on, shift all the way back to second gear and go through third and fourth again. It acts as a seven speed! I give it a

Thanks. That sounds better.. So if you decide to punch it then the OD automatically kicks off.. Thats pretty cool.
