I have a 96 corvette that overheated and the crankcase sensor went bad (at least it appears that is the problem). I have the part but I can not locate it on the engine. One place says it is in the front over the balance another said on the passenger side of the engine and the last place said in the rear of the engine over the starter. Can someone please tell me exactly where the sensor is and how to get to it?

If it won't start the crankshaft position is not the culprit..it is there to make the '96 OBD 2 compliant as far as miss fire detection goes..the PCM does not need it to run...it uses the "opti" to detect camshaft position relative to spark timing.
I replaced the O ring on the crankshaft position sensor because of a oil leak...it is located right front of engine ...down low near the crankshaft balancer and hub...I did mine on a lift and it wasn't too bad 20-25 minutes held by 1 bolt..just very close quarters...once again it will not cause a no start condition.
What will cause the engine to turn over, but no power to the fuel pump or ignition? This all happened when it overheated and I had a rollback bring it home.

One thing that comes to mind is the opti distributor (since it was overheated) what caused it to overheat ?/ The opti does not like getting wet coolant/water on or inside of it... Is the water pump leaking ?? A leaking/seaping water pump will kill the "opti"..I know, it happened to me I had a very slight seep at the water pump and it killed my opti. Hoses/radiator anything that may have soaked the opti can "kill' one. I'd suggest using a scan tool and see if you have any codes. Well that's my 2 cents anyway
The thermostat stuck. The engine had started sputtering from overheating and I shut it down and had a wrecker bring it in. The engine was still running when I shut it off. Went out to check it the next day and no power to the ignition or fuel pump. Where is this opti sensor?

The "sensor" is inside the opti distributor which is beneath the water pump (spark plug wires connect to it)...But if you didn't have a coolant leak spewing on it that is likely not the problem. I'll say again I would scan for codes to see what the PCM is seeing....I'll assume you've checked fuses...finally if you have no codes/fuses are good....then i'd take a battery cable loose for a few minutes - hook the cable back up and see what happens.
