ZR1, Ruby, Gran Sport, 35th Anniversary, CE .... Keep them original. Anything else , the cost of the paint job will be about equal to the value of the car. Have it your way and enjoy it.
Teal just never did anything for me.
It's more work to change color though. It's really up to you.
I always liked admiral blue. The earlier dark blue metallic is awesome.
I have a turquise metalic 1991 coupe. I think its the nicest color GM ever offered.[and im straight] LOL yes they are a bit rare, i think 1621 of them were painted in that color.
I like the color but its one of those deals where you like it or you hate it,no in the middle on this one.Theres a guy in town thats got a 91 ZR-1 this color, one of maybe 70? ZR-1 that color for 91.Its for sale.
I'm really not one for mods, but must say what you have done is great! It's not far out or radical, the paint looks good and you've done just enough body mod to set it apart but not ruin it. Congrats!
This is your car. Paint it the color that pleases you. Just bear in mind that if you paint it other than the original color it can detract from the selling price, especially if you paint it in a color not offered by Corvette. You are the only one who can decide if a factory color or a non factory color will make you happy. If you plan to keep it for a long time and are not worried about resale choose the color you feel would make you happy.
I think any other color would increase a turqoise colored cars value.
I too have a 1991 Torquise Metallic and love the color. Those who think it's gay definitely have homo-security issues. Gay colors are pink and yellow. Gay cars are Beetles and Jettas.
Corvettes....never gay, unless they're pink! And GM never made any pink 'Vettes.
ha.. watch out, you may offend some sensitive people with that statement.
You made the right decision painting it blue. It looks fantastic!
I would NEVER buy a GREEN car. By repainting it the stock color, you would limit who would buy it anyway. There is a REASON they didnt make many green cars. Because most vette owners like good looking colors like black, red, ruby, blue, or even white, etc.
Our C4's are not collectible anyway. (im not talking about ZR1's here)
JMO............ Purists for C4's could possibly be considered
"Corvette Queer".
I think this may have been my Dad's old car. His was a 1991, black top, black interior, factory luggage rack, standard leather seats... 6 Speed! If I recall his only had the standard tape deck and not the bose.
Some don't like the color and that is fine. I know they get a ton of looks at car shows because they are different at this point.
One note of rarity, if someone is looking for this car... a Turquoise 6 speed is truly rare. narrow it down to a Turquoise 6 speed convertible and they made less than 20 between 90 and 91. In 1991 I believe (if my memory is correct) they made 7 total 6 speed convertibles in turquoise. And no... they didn't have trouble selling them in turquoise. I visited many corvette lots back then and they were quite popular. Turquoise was the 4th best selling color in 1991 behind Red, White, and Black which are always the most popular! In fact, the reason why we visited so many dealers is it was so hard to find one in 6 speed. My Dad actually wanted a coupe but bought the convertible on a whim after searching dealer after dealer for 6 speed turquoise coupe. Reedman happened to have the two convertibles so he spent the extra dough to get one over the coupe because he liked the color so much.
My dad put his in Corvette trader in the mid 90's and a guy bought the car for full asking price the first day it hit the stands... sight unseen, he flew into Orlando, my Dad met him at the airport. he walked around the car one time then they did the deal and he drove off. He had been trying to find one of the mythical 7 six speed cars for a few years at that point.
The ones I know of are:
-I know personally of one other 6 speed as it was sitting on the lot next to his at Reedman in Langhorn PA. that one had black sport seats, a factory hard top, no luggage rack, and I think FX3 (it was loaded). I *think* the Toy store in Tampa just sold this car, sans hard top, but it may have been a different one.
-Callaway B2k Turquoise
-I know of one that had a saddle top and saddle interior
As others have said it is your car so do what you want. But for anyone else that has one... the truly rare corvettes are like this one. if you repaint a 40th anniversary there are another 6000 just like it. You can find them all day long in perfect condition. Try to find a rare car like this at all and it is near impossible much less finding a nice one.
Turquoise and a 6speed is what I wanted in my c4. I like the color. Mine is a 90. Only 589 in tis color. Second fewest then yellow
There were so few in 1990 because the color wasn't in the brochure. It was a late addition to the lineup. They ran out of cars for the Indy 500 (beretta that year) so the festival cars were Corvettes. They matched the pace car colors of the beretta (yellow and turquoise).
The three colors that ended up being available in 1990 were Turquoise, Competition Yellow, and Quasar Blue. You'll notice the production on those three colors are the lowest and it's because they were added late and even after they added them many didn't know about them.
Turquoise ended up as a corvette option because of the production issues on the beretta, then it was so popular it stuck around for 1991. It would have stuck longer if they didn't have problems with that particular paint color. There are major fading issues with it so it is very hard to find an original one. My Dad's car was a lucky one. There was a big acid rain problem up in the north east at the time (maybe still is?). Bottom line is he bought it and there were acid rain spots all over... he took at back and they did a light sand and added a few coats of clear coat to it to fix the issue. It was the nicest turquoise car you'll see because it had so much clear on it.
