Door lock help!
My '91 never came with door keys. Someone had put on an aftermarket clicker so all was well. But I have always wanted to get the key made for the door. I went to the dealer to have them cut new ones and after three attempts, all we could get into was the glove box. So, it was assumed that at some point during the cars life, the door locks were changed.
So, I talked to several locksmiths each of which suggested it'd help my wallet if the lock was out of the car. Simple enough. So about a week or so ago, I took the passenger side door apart and about an hour and a half later I had the door handle and lock in my hand. $30 and I had a new key cut (that fit everything). So, today I went to put it all back together and something seemed odd. I thought that there was something that went behind the switch assembly/theft deterrent and according to the FSM there should be a "lock pawl" between the theft deterent thing and the clip that holds it all together. Well, I vaguely remember something like this but I cannot find it. Although what the FSM shows and what I remember look a bit different. I've looked thoroughly in the door, torn the garage apart, looked in the car, under the car - no dice. I'm pretty organized and neat too, so I don't know how I would've even misplaced it. However, now I feel like I'm losing it because I can't even find the part online to replace it. HELP?! Does this even exist and if so, anyone know where I can get one? I figure that as soon as I order one, the old one will turn up.
Oh, and as luck would have it, the locksmith claims the dealer miscut the key (as I took one with me) and that's why it wouldn't work in the doors. He also bet me that his would work in the glove box...sure enough, it does.
Back to the garage to look some more. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
