My chef bought an 85 coupe a few years back. He hit a raccoon on the road last year and pulled the car out today to drive it and had a puddle of red fluid under the front nose. It seems it has some sort of cooler in front of the radiator that got a leak when the coon struck it. Do C4's have power steering or trans coolers in the front from the factory? I told him to route a copper pipe around the system until he can get it to a shop. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Dave
Assuming the car is stock, the A/C condenser is in front of the radiator. Nothing red there. The radiator has a built in transmission cooler on the passenger side. The cooler is contained in the right hand tank. There would be red transmission fluid in the tank as well as the two lines which run to the transmission. There is no power steering cooler on my 85. Don't think there was one on any but could be wrong about the Z51 option. Power steering fluid may be red or clear depending on who made it.
The only auxiliary cooler on C4s was an engine oil cooler (RPO KC4) )
.
Z51 cars had a PS cooler with the faster ratio rack .Was only available as part of the Z51 package , not standalone option
Mounts in front of the X member as shown
Cheaper to get regular hoses and delete it as only needed for heavy track work like Auto-X
