Default Difference between 86 vert vs 94 vert

I have an 86 pace car w/82k-auto and runs well, I am looking at a guys 94 polo vert w/48k and a 6 speed. There would be about a 3k difference. The 94 is stock and so is my 86. Does someone have an opinion between these two cars? Thanks for any imput

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Newer car, better parts, more horsepower.
A difference of $3k is perfect.

In fact, if you don't want to do it, I have a 87 coupe with 77k and I'm in Ohio.
I'll do it.

Are you holding a gun to his head, or is he drunk? 8 yrs newer and only $3k, go for it!

if you are trading him have the car checked, people are usually not stupid about what they have, I am sure he has checked in to it like you are now.
Does he maybe think yours is special because it's an 86' pace car, because they all were. Also he may be unloading something nasty in your hands.
probably a better deal for you than him, but you can't trust people too far. good luck sounds like it could be a good deal
IMHO

Keep the Pacecar if you want something a little more unique. If you just want a driver car go for it. I might be a little biased when it comes to giving advice though.

A C4 with over 50k miles is nothing special. I'd take the newer one.

Thanks for the replies. I am negotiating today and will post later. I'm still mixed as to what to do. My 86 will need around $2000 in maintenance(tires, exhaust), I don't know if it's the right direction? We'll see today. Ofcourse my wife is no help, because she doesn't care about cars.

The newer car has more power if want stock for stock. With that 6 speed as well, I think you'd love the change. Polo green is not exactly my fav color though.

OK, the car checked out overall with 48572k. Drove incredibly well. It has the FX3 suspension, newer tires, new battery, very clean underneath, clean engine compartment but needs dusted. Shifted well. I was bitten after having an 86 and 88 vert. I was hit in my 88 then after settlement I bought the 86. The z52 88 was a better car than the 86. This 94 is much better than the 88 I had. I like strong performance and have done some drags, but am more of a cruiser. Long story short, I bought the car outright for $11000

pics on the way today. Thanks for the imput, wasn't sure about what I was negotiating. Question- did I get into anything with this 94 maintenance wise that I'm unaware of in comparison to my 86? I drove my 86 w/the top down yesterday and enjoyed it, and will pick the 94 up today. Thanks-Jim

Just be sure to NOT wash the engine and soak the opti. The car is very similiar but the LT1 is a different critter.

Sounds like you did pretty good. Little bit of difference between a LT1 and a L98, isn't there? The opti is under the water pump in front. When you wash the engine try to keep the water away from that specific area (just like you don't soak the distributer on the older engines).
