Alternator Question!

Default Alternator Question!
What is the little wire with the orange end on it. It plugs in somewhere near the engine block. The black plastic shroud that covers it is busted any ideas what this is called. I had them shaking their heads at NAPA.

That wire plugs into the thermostatic switch between spark plugs #1 and #3. The switch turns on the auxilliary fan when the coolant temperature gets to 238 F.
