Default Dash cluster flashing random

I have been working on my car all week, some things going well, and some things not. I have run into a problem I cannot solve however. After putting in a new battery, changing plugs, wires etc.., my dash cluster seems fine while the car is not running, and the key is on, but when you start the car the gauges jump all over the place with random numbers, lines, etc. I checked my ground to the battery, retraced my steps on the wires and cap, nothing. I took the cluster out today, wiggled the connections while it was running, which also didn't help. On the side of the block there is some sort of temperature sensor I did break (birttle with age) but even when I hook it back up it doesnt fix the gauges. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just had the cluster rebuilt on my 84 by a forum member here. SCARABEXC you might PM and tell him what the problem is. He probably would tell you what the problem is. He is very reasonable if you have to have any work done, and he also sells cluster. You didn't mention the year of your vette. Great guy to deal with......

Seems like I remember the FSM or Owners Manual describing the dash unit flashing when there is a problem with the car. Its an additional safety feature besides the guages and the information center warnings. Check and see if its throwing a code, fix the sensor you broke and go from there before buying a new dash unit. You may end up with the same deal with a new dash.

Alright, scanned the car, no trouble codes, and tested the alternator, no problem there, any more suggestions?
