Default Missing Carpetting?????

My '89 coupe has no carpetting in the rear area except for the pieces on the wheel well humps. Am I missing two pieces, the rear hatch mat and the piece that goes from the floor up to the hatch lock? Or was this all one piece running down the center and going up to the hatch lock? Did it velcro to the compartment doors, and was there any padding or insulation under it ?

Hey Joe,
I cant say for sure if the 89 floor to rear wall trunk was one or two pieces. But on my 86 it was two pieces. One floor rug and one thin flimsy rug glued to the wall back there.

The compartment doors rug I think had velcro attachments and a hole cut in them to fit the button locks back there.

If you buy a replacement rear carpet it has the two sides for the wheel wells and a one piece trunk rug that also runs up the back wall and needs to be glued on to stay up.

Looks great but isnt factory correct if thats what youre after,UNLESS if the 89's were a bit different from my 86.But yes you should have some insulation on the trunk floor and a carpet on top of it there.
BTW,There was no insulation on the trunk wall.

If you decide to buy a rear carpet kit from someone and need a little additonal tips or help, let us know. They will usually need to be somewhat trimmed, cut and etc for a perfect fit...I found a few tips along the way.Otherwise it was a easy install.
:)
