Default Really strange argument

Did the 1988 35 th. aniversary model come out with regular motor oil or did it come with synthetic motor oil? I sal that synthetic was not widely used at that time.

I have an 35th Anni with a Mobile 1 sticker above the radiator (96k miles). I don't think is is original but the previous owners put it there for some reason. I use Mobile1 5-30 and it does not leak or burn so it works for me.
The owners manual does not specify Mobil1

I believe the use of Mobil 1 as the factory fill started in 92 when the LT1 came out. The optional oil cooler was dropped that same year.

My 1991 owners manual says to use regular motor oil, not synthetic. The 1992 and up LT1 engine uses synthetic. The earlier L98 engines did not generate enough heat to require synthetic, from what I have read.

Per the info in the Corvette Black Book, you are correct. The only exception were the B2K Callaway Twin Turbo optioned cars. They used Mobil 1.

Thanks for posting this, I have a 90 and was curious about whether real or synthetic would make a difference.

Guess keeping it real is where its at.

I prefer full synth, seems to work well in my 88. The engines do get hot on these, and synth can handle a lot more heat

Synthetic is also good for causing leaks with it's cleaning detergents on sludged up engine internals.

I can fix leaks. Sludge can shorten an engine's life considerably.

I don't even know if mine has leaks. I have used castrol before and it supposedly gets rid of sludge...More market hype I presume.

When I switched my 85 to Mobil 1...the oil was extremely dirty inside of 1500 miles or so. I changed it...again super dirty in 1500 miles. After about a year of mobil 1 I could go longer without changing the oil due to all of the crap coming out of the motor. I did also have to fix a couple of oil leaks.
