I have an 87 L98, and the smog pump is squalling. I'm thinking and looking at other threads, should I replace pump, or delete it. Pros and cons from people who have actually done it please. Where has anyone bought one from, and were you happy with that brand? Any brand better than others, and where did you get it from? Are new pumps available, and what is price difference? My mechanic said it might set of "Check engine light". Anybody had this happen? I don't have to pass emissions, and I'm not going to sell anytime soon. Thanks in advance for responses.
I just bought an air pump delete kit from Firevette off this forum. It was brand new. It is a TPIS kit. I would recomend it. Getting rid of all the tubing and BS along with the pump really cleans up the engine compartment. You can buy caps right at the hardware store to cap off the exhaust manifold. I didn't get a check engine light. I also have my old air pump if you are interested in it. Not worth much to me. It didn't make any noise but it does have a 100k on it. My car is a 89. Kit was simple to install. Took less than half an hour.
Oreilly's and Autozone $49.99
I was very surprised with price and that they even offered it. I would like to have deleted it for the looks, but $180 for such a couple pieces of metal, seemed a little high to me. I'm going to try and make something myself later.

Let me know if you want me to take measurements...It does look like you could easily make one....

I wish I lived by you, I just replaced my pump today and it was $69.99 from AutoZone... I was surprised anyone had it, they were my last call.

That's what I thought to0 when I seen a pic of what you'd get for $180. I looks like to me getting the height would be the only hardest part. 2 bolts into the head w/sleeve, chunk of steel w/pulley. I know businesses have to recoup the development costs, $20 worth of steel, and a $20 pulley, alittle bit of welding, and selling for 500% profit seems a little much. I think I'll take good measurements and start selling them my self
I might hit you up for your measurements too.
There are obstructions? Are they in the manifold.??? Thats not good, how do you get them out of there?
Just two long airtubes weled onto the top of the manifolds. Take a dremel, shave them off, then put liquid steel or JB weld over it. I used clay that turns hard as steel. No issues. No codes. Nothing. Alot cleaner and easier to change plugs to. Very simple to do. Remove all hosing if you want to do that though. Just chop it all off. I did. Can also remove the AIR computer box and zip tie the connectors under the plenum away from the pullys.
I removed the air computer box and all of the related tubing, i just bought caps at the hardware store for the tubes that go into the manifolds. I thought when you said there were obstuctions that those tubes went into the manifolds and actually blocked part of the manifold
(on the inside)
