I have a 95 convertible that needs a new top. Is this something that can be tackled by someone with decent mechanical skills, or should it be done by a professional?
I replaced the top on my 88 vert 2 summers ago, not a very hard job but it takes a lot of time...I sent more than a day cleaning off the old glue from the frame(hardest part)...but I did the top in a weekned by myself and it tuned out great...you MUST by the how too video from Al Knoch and make sure you get a good top, and do not forget you will need new weather_stripping..the rear will rip...
They are not difficult. Just time consuming. Take your time. Like previous post said, Clean off all the old glue off the framework. Do the back first. If you decide to do it PM me and I will give you more details.
Check out this article from CF, a lot of good info if you decide to do your own top. As everyone says a lot of cleaning and a weekend, but very do able. Here's a pic of mine first one I did. I did watch the video from Al knock and was helpful.
