What do you C4 guys think about C3 Corvettes???

My dream Vette would be a 72 BB with a C4 suspension. I saw one at the AutoFair in Charlotte. With it's coke bottle shape and high fenders they are a gas to drive. The Mako Shark influence is awesome. BUT, most C3 drivers seem to have the same complaint, too much mx required.

I put over 100K on my 73. I'm up to about 50K on my 87. The 73 was low mileage when I got it, but the 87 already had 132K on the clock. The C4 drives better; on a highway stomp the nose stays planted and the suspension holds the car like it should. Above 100 MPH in the C3, it was a little like flying a small plane close to the ground. The C4 body doesn't spiderweb or crack like the C3's does; there's no gel coat, and the body seams are behind the moldings. I could have been killed when the rear spring in the C3 broke (corrosion); the C4 springs won't rust. I think it's an even trade on mechanical problems, though the C4 is more of a mystery if you aren't into electronic stuff. The C3 has it on styling though, inside and out.

Not a C3 fan. 75% of the vettes in DK are C3.
To me a C3 is "just another US car"...
and the C4 is sports car, which appeals so much more to me.
The look of an early (crome bumper) C3 Targa can be OK, but the late 70 models....Geeee

The C3 was all about looks. It was the futuristic Shark that most Corvette enthusiasts were hoping Chevrolet would build which they did. It had some design flaws that had to be worked out like most first year new Corvettes models but it was light years ahead of its time in design with its futuristic roof design and its huge fender bulges. It was a surviver and manage to make it through the smog era in one of the auto motive history worst time periods. I feel it had the tradition of the C1 and C2 built into it and today still looks good decades later.

I've always been a fan of the C3s, (C2s also). I prefer the 68-72 years. I love the chrome bumpers. When I think of the Corvette, I feel the C3 really represents the car the best.

Not sure I've ever seen a Targa top on a C3, you may not have seen as many C3's as you think but if you do see one with a Targa top get a picture. As far as the late 70s, I'm assuming you're talking about rubber bumper cars, they still have much better lines than the box like lines of a C4. The C3 has the sexiest lines ever put on a Vette, IMHO.

When the C3 first came out, it took me a while to warm up to it - I thought it looked kind of cartoonish compared to the C2, and I thought the dash was a huge step backward. But over the years I grew to appreciate the body style - I like the chrome bumper era and the late rubber bumper styles the best of the bunch.

I have seen my fair share of C3´s, enough to know that I would never buy one. Especially a rubber bumper one.

Sorry for correcting you on the Targa Top thing, apparently you don't like being corrected when wrong. Just thought I would try to keep you from looking foolish again in the future...........

Don't buy one, more for those of us that do appreciate them. Do I hear a bit of the Vette Snob coming out in you? I don't recall calling your car tacky, but if that makes you feel better go ahead and take a shot. I can guarantee you that my tacky rubber bumper car will get more looks than a C4 anytime I was begged to put it in a local show this weekend, they had no interest in my C4 though, go figure.

I have no problem looking foolish... but apparently you have a problem that I dont like C3´s...
Alot og people dont like C4´s, and alot of people dont like the GS with the circus color theme going on...Everybody have a right to their opinion, and I DO NOT try to correct them or tell the otherwise.
For now we can all just be happy that you own your dream car, and I own the car that I like the best. Afterall its just cars

69 vs. 94
I bought a 69 coupe new,.. LT1 (dealer built) and had it for 10 years, and enjoyed it very much. I lost interest in Corvettes by the time the 74 model came out...just not anything there to get excited about...of course the 70's and early 80's were dark days for performance cars in general. I drive a 94 coupe,..... 6-speed (what else?) now, and it still has some of the feel of my old 69. I would say that both cars would be about equal on acceleration, but the 94 gets almost twice the gas mileage on the freeway...just amazes me.
