Hello, all.
Newly registered and I have an 85 that is a work in progress.
I am currently looking into a nice set of wheels from a 93 and I was interested to find out if anyone can verify that they will fit on the 85.
Thanks for your help.
Welcome ceveo!
You have come to the most used corvette site on the net. You got problems, this is the place to come to. I do know the 85 has 16"wheels, while the 93 has 17". I am sure someone will chime in and let you know if they will fit.
Once again, welcome to the forum!
Thanks for the reply.
I am aware of the 16" / 17"...I actually have wheels from an 88 on it now and I believe they are 17"'s.
Like you said, hopefully others will chime in to confirm the fit.
Thanks, Froggy.
That site is a big help.
I'm still a little confused though.
I have the later model wheels that are 7.4" backspace on now without the adapters.
I should be able to figure it out.
The difference will be in the wheel offset, not the backspacing. 84-87 cars had a 38mm offset while the 88-96 cars had wheels with a 56mm offset. That 18mm difference is about 3/4". Later OEM wheels will bolt on with no problems but they will sit further inside the wheelwell that 3/4". Doesn't sound like much, but it will be noticeable.
The later C4's had 275/40-17 tires and there is very little difference in the diameter compared to the early 255/50-16 tires. You should not see a big difference in the speedo/odometer readings. The tread width is very close to the same.
To get the later wheels/tires to fit "right" you will need 3/4" adapters. They can be pricey but check the C4 Parts for Sale section as they sometime show up there. Also try flea-bay.
