Big scratch in clearcoat!!!
I am not sure how it got there.. but it happened while the car was out this past weekend. I have a long scratch on the rear deck from mid point out to the top of the rear facia.... it looks like its only into the clearcoat... I've tried a polishing compound very lightly with no improvement.. i am worried about trying anything more abrasive.... got any ideas out there???
(I meant to post this in C5 general but I am sure there are plenty of you in the C4 group with this type of experience... so how about it?)
You need to take the car to a good paint and body shop and have them look at the scratch and ask them if they can wet sand and buff the scratch out.
Any good paint and body guy should be able to use some 2000 grit sand paper and sand it out. Then buff it back with a high speed buffer then glaze.
Make sure they know what they are doing and not to go through the clear coat. If you were able to make it look better with polish then it sounds like it could be removed.
3m perfectit fine cut cleaner. you can get it at napa. it works great on minor scratches. make sure you also work the area around the scratch too. i have had real good luck with it. my dog jumped up on the side of my tahoe and scratched it pretty bad and that fixed it. the paint job on my tahoe is extremely slick and it is black, that is as hard to hide a flaw as it gets. if the scratch is only in the clear its easy to fix. you dont have to worry about color match. you can sand and polish to get texture match. before you spray it try to block/wet sand it and buff it. if the scratch is too deep then you have to spray it.
