Default Pumping gas

Had second experience with failure of pump nozzle to shut off when tank was full. I wasn't paying attention and as a result put about 2 Gal of Hi Test on the pavement. This resulted in the attendant getting bent out of shape and telling me not to move the car until the fire co. arrived and OK'ed leaving, so we waited until the Chief and one big fire truck arrived. Any body have a similar experience??

I have a 94 vert.

Most of the pumps I had used lately have the auto fill removed from the nozzle. However you would think the station would have some floor dry or kitty litter for a spill condition to absorb the fuel in that type of situation.

nozzle is defective...insist attendant hit the "panic" button" (required by law within immediate area of attendant)...station owner will likely get proper/safe nozzle after paying cost of reloading extinguishing system

Ive had that happen alot. I think they are being cheap asses. Plus, if you spill gas, you gotta pay for it.... Making extra money there when the gas it not going to be used.

Heck, I worry about the nozzle falling out, so I'm always right there the whole time.

Happened to me once last year while traveling. Not only did no one from the station care, they didn't even notice me washng off my car. Now I never stray more that a few inches from the gas nozzle (and I was only cleaning my windshield off). Can't trust those automatic deals...

I've had this happen once in the Vette and once in my Impala. The Vette was my fault. I tried to top off the tank after the auto shut-off ; All of the other cars I've owned, this was not a problem but I guess the Vette is different. I'll never do that again. On the Impala, I left the auto fill on while I cleaned the windshield and the pump didn't shut off when it was full so I guess it was broke. I don't use the auto fill anymore.

I fill it myself and don't let someone else touch it.

That happened to me last year, on the way to work. Smelled from gas all day long and never went back to that station again.

I've never had that problem, either. Even if I set the auto lock on the nozzle, I always release it and go to manual control a couple of dollars away from my purchase price.

That happened to me once in my old Audi S4, and I had my hand on the pump too!! I did have my back to the car, and was 'people watchin' while I was pumping. I was alerted to the calming sounds of a waterfall and the smell of high test. I too lost about 2 gallons to pavement, and I got po'ed at the station and refuse to pay for what spilled. They have the responsibilty of making sure that their pumps work right. When it happened to me I went right in and told Habib that his pump was broken and I spilled about 4 dollars worth of gas, so here is the difference and get your pump fixed and be happy I'm not making you wash my car. He looked a little stunned, said ok, and I went on my way.
