The 1996 service manual shows that you can use a floor jack under the front cross member. But it does not show any jacking points at the rear of the vehicle. Can anyone give me some advise as to where it is safe to use a floor jack to raise the rear of the car? I'm planning to install a cat back system so I need to get it up high enough to work on. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who will let me use a lift.
On my 96, under the doors on the actual frame of the car , there are marks that say"Jack here" or something to that effect. It is very close to the rear wheels.
IMHO the marked jacking points at the rear rocker panel aren't that great...the frame lip is thin and will start to gouge after a few times.
I put the jack under the rear camber rods, which is approved by GM. Then I place the jackstands on the frame area in front of the rear tires (slightly to the rear and inboard of the marked jacking location on the rocker panel).
