Default Stainless Works header gaskets

I am installing a set of Stainless Works (Stainless Works part # C492-96) long tube headers on a ’92 LT1. Just wondering if anyone has installed a set of these headers and what gaskets you used and if you encountered any fitment problems?

Thanks,
Charles

PM Weav's Vet if he doesn't reply, I know he just installed a set, pretty sure he used Fel Pro gaskets and he indicated there were some issues with the fit. Good luck.

I did use the Felpro but really haven't ran it long enough to tell you if they are good or bad.

I asked the very same question about a week or so ago and it was about a tie between Felpro and Percy's. Good luck!

I originally tried Mr. Gasket copper, and they leaked badly. I replaced them with the stock gaskets, which worked better, and finally went with Percy's XX Carbon gaskets.

Mr Casket is what SW recommends. I was a little surprised at that.

What's the word on the motor?

The embossed ridge didn't compress evenly, so there was a big leak at the bottom on the copper gaskets.

I haven't gotten an update on the engine yet - hoped I would hear from him today.

Well that's just wonderful news. Guess which gaskets I have. That's right, Mr Gasket copper.
The reason that gaskets will not seat correctly is that the Stainless Works flange ports do not match the 'D' ports on the LT1. (see pic below)
Even if you were not using the gaskets with the embossed ridge (like the Mr. Gasket) there is only a minimal seating space of about 0.16". I thought about welding a "patch" into this space on the header flange so that the ridge would be compressed in this area, but that would probably cause the flange to warp and make the problem worse. You would think that as much as the SW headers cost they would at least fit the exhaust ports a little better.
