I grew tired of my GPS, iPhone and radar detector all suction cupped to my windshield. Finding no solutions available, I set out for my own fix.
With all the parts removed I decided the best looking solution would be for the GPS to sit at the top where it could be viewed easily in front of the two center vents.
I cut the plastic and wood trim to make room for the GPS. The notch at the bottom is for the GPS release button. The hole drilled to the right of the stereo hole is for an aux jack. I routed an edge into the backside of the trim around the warning light display. This allowed me to put a clear plastic window there.
A replacement brace for the GPS to be mounted (and screwed) to. Once cleaned up this was painted black and the edges of the plastic sanded down.
To insure the proper amount of air still flowed into the cabin, I opened up the outside edges of the vents to allow more air flow.
Completed image. The GPS is still removeable when needed (it can run on its own internal battery). The iPhone is bolted to the clear plastic window I installed via a cut down piece of Griffin's Window Seat mount (intended for use on the windshield). I installed the aux jack on the right of the stereo and a USB charging port on the right hand side of the dash. The USB also connects to the Alpine stereo. I don't have the electronics hardwired to power yet and currently it plugs in using the 12V plug. Also picutred here is the wireless remote for the stereo on the steering wheel and the Viper 5301 keyless/remote start key fob and Alpine X001.
Maybe a silly question, but don't iphones have true built in GPS? And if so why do you need both on the dash?
I have the first generation iPhone which doesn't have the GPS... even if it was the 3G, a dedicated GPS like Garmin or Tomtom does a much better job.
This GPS has an audio jack and an SD slot where it could be used as a media player as well. I didn't really have any need for that, but I am routing the sound to a cheap amp that powers the two 4x6 speakers in the dash. Those speaker holes weren't used, so now I can actually hear turn directions on the interstate while the top is out and I'm driving... well, let's say a 'little' over the speed limit. :o
Actually... what I'm considering is taking all the trim panels off and sanding and sealing them. Then having them painted the same metallic blue as the car.

Gotcha'
And BTW the install does look nice and I especially like the feature you mentioned installing in this post about the dedicated amplified speakers for the TBT directions very.
