Will a 285/45 zr17 fit on a 17* 11 wheel? I was told to get that size because the 315's cause the wheels to stick out of the rear fender. The 285's supposedly dont stick out. Does anyone know if this is accurate info.

If its an after market 17x11 rim and you put on a 315 size tire, it might stick out a bit because the offset of the rim might be higher compared to the original.
I have 285s on all four rims (stock size 17x9.5). They fit perfectly on the rims and they are tucked nicely under the wheel wells with no problem at all. :yesnod:
285mm on an 11" wheel will look rather funny. You are talking about a 30mm difference in the tires. A 315 is a better fit for an 11" wheel. My 86 has 17x9.5 and the 285s fit perfect.
As stated above the wheel offset will have more to do with the tire sticking out.
I had 285/40s on my 11s for 6 months, no problems. Just got my 315s put on last week. Looking down from the top of the fender you can't see any tread, just a little bit of sidewall (285s or 315s). This will vary from car to car.
