LS1 Motors KICK BUTT! Those things take to heads and cams better than LT1 cars take to stroker motors!
Show me a F-Body that paid the extra money for the LS1 and has not changed a thing (intake/exhaust) and I will show you an F-body owner that doesn't race it. Almost everyone does at least intake and exhaust on these cars. ust go to a local show that has a lot of F-bodies and it looks like a Donaldson commercial. At least down here in Texas that is the way it is.
The new SS Camaro with the LS1 runs a 12.999 on good days completely stock and out of the factory. They are so nice. They would smoke the L98. They have just as much Torque and almost 90+ HP. My friend has a 02 TA. It is SOFA KING fast for stock :D
They are completely right. :) I suppose I should add to that huh? :)
I've raced/beaten the Z28 LT1 camaros at the strip, but a LS1 is a whole other story. You may get them out of the whole if you do not spin, but anything past 55mph and you are toast.

:yesnod: :yesnod: Except I would say 70+ and you are toast.
I raced and FRC, I was leading and pulling till 70. Then it was like I threw an anchor at the 2-3 shift. And he flew by me, got 3 car lengths then shut it down.
LT1 Camaros and Birds are completely different though. I've taken a 97ish White with Orange Race stripes Z28 down fairly easy. Probably because it weighs more so any hp difference is negated due to weight. I plan on racing an s2000. I'll see how that goes :)
I'm pretty sure my L98 is running fairly well. And I'm pretty sure that the S2000's lag (6k to make power) will play fully to my advantage.
The LS1 camaro/firechicken will humuliate an L98. Low-flat-13's? Even a mustang magazine hit the high 12's in a STOCK ls1 camaro.. The best time I've seen for an L98 is very low 14's or maybe a high 13. That's about .8-1 second of difference. That's a murder. I've stayed even with LT1 camaros almost all the way through first gear, but the LS1 cars just plain murder me...
We're talking 100+hp difference here.

Scorps l98 hit 13.4 stock. I've seen many LS1's hit 13's. So with a bad driver an L98 in top running order like scorps could beat a poorly driven Ls1. Its possible, but not likely.
A few of my friends said that the LS1 in some of the newer style camaros would give the L98 corvette a decent race ....if not beat it.:bs does anyone haveany info on this? I mean, ive been in both...and i would have to say that the L98 had alot more torgue then the camaro.

my 99 T/A with a catback exhaust and lid put 312rwhp and ran 13.20's at 104. I liked the LS1 so much that I yanked the 383 out of my 84 Vette and put a heads and cammed LS1 in her :yesnod:
Ok Lets get tech about then. I've worked on the LT-1's before but never touched to LS-1. What's the deal with it and power makeing and blah blah....
Do they have to wrap up fast like the Lt-1's do to make the power, soild or roller cam, what size valves, lift on the cam. Could some one shed some light on me so I can see the way?
I hear ya scorp. The question from the original post was very clear and simple.
Some have started a whole different discussion on mods and blah blah blah.
Using the 1/4 mile as a measuring stick, stock for stock, equal drivers and equal launch the L98 will lose to an LS1.
Yes, of course a LS-1 will slap around a L98.... and here's why, its the LS-1 heads... they're works of art, probably the best small block chevy factory head ever produced. They flow right around 240 cfm in/200 cfm ex from the factory.... to put that in perspective, these factory heads flow better than out of the box Dart, WP sportsman 2's and Edlebrock heads and almost as well as out of the box AFR 190's, Brodix and Trick flows. In otherwords, basically a LS-1 is outfitted with an aftermarket set of heads... from the factory. To put this in further perspective, on my 383 I have a thoroughly ported set of iron Dart 2's that flow 260/190.... the LS-1 head flows better than my heads "untouched" from the factory on the exhaust side and with just a little minor blending will outflow my heads on the intake side.
They respond very well to porting.... you can easily get 290+ cfm flow out of them without having to open up the intake runner to some obsurd number. Thus they build excellent HP #'s modified as well. If you notice, I don't think there have been any aftermarket castings introduced for the LS-1, and probably won't be.... hard to improve on the casting as I'm sure AFR, Brodix and World Products have discovered.
The aluminum block is a nice feature, but doesn't do a lot for HP.... the LS1/LS6 manifold is very nice too.... the intake allows you to rev above 6000 rpm without any problems, however coupled with the heads your torque does not take a big hit down low, thus this is a rare case of "Having your cake and eating it too"
It also helps that the ecm's allow for a lot of tuning flexibility... it really allows them to dial in the motor to a tee.....
One of these days I'm gonna get me one of those and play.... :yesnod:
