About 6 years ago I did a trade for the Corvette that I currently own . It WAS a beautiful 1984 shiny maroon color. I washed it almost every day, but my ex said that my teenage son was going to drive it. Well you can only imagine what happened! Because I live in the desert, it is very important to maintain your vehicles here due to the sun that eats them alive. Anyways, my son has not maintained this car and has since been driving it to college. After the divorce I was awarded ownership of the Corvette. The paint on it is bad (top of the car) and the seats and carpeting are old. I just want to unload it, but I don't want to be naive about it, so I have come here to get advise. Kelley's Blue Book does not go back that far. Need to find a price that is fair to the buyer and to myself and any other advise you can offer about it. Thanks!
In this market it will be more fair to the buyer than you.
It is hard to say without knowing your market, mileage, and mechanical condition.
Best to look online for local cars. Cars.com, ebay, etc. I'm always "watching" '86 corvettes on ebay and following up to see how much they sold for. Hopefully you'll find a few that sold in similar condition to get an opinion of value.
Good luck!
Hard to say wwithout seeing it, but assuming it runs well with no major problems, and depending upon location and mileage, I'd say $2000-$3000. You can check Craigs list in your area (out about 500 miles). Here in Phoenix, there are several of the more desireable 85-87's under $4000. The cost of either the paint or the interior could be more than the car is worth. 25 years ago, they were one of the most advanced and desireable cars in the world, and people were paying up to 100% premium for them. They haven't aged well. Good luck with it.
OR - you could disregard the dollars and cents comparison of the generally accepted value, and gradually restore it to the car you once loved. And this time, no ex to hijack it and let it get run down.
Paint 3K and up depending on how much work (disassembly) and prep is done before it goes to the painter. Leather Sport Seats covers, foam and install about 1,100. Carpet 400. So about 5K to put it back to "nice". Agree that ebay and cars dot com are good places to look for comparables. Good Luck.
There are several 1984's listed today on america's number one auction site. Take a look and match the mileage and condiction with yours and see what they are selling for. Good luck.
