C4 Rear End Problem
First,
Let me say, I love my 1987--thanks in part to you guys, I've learned how to turn a wrench a little...but this one is beyond me:
When I drive forward, there is a loud thumping coming from the rear of the car. It happens if I'm accelerating or coasting, but never when the car is in reverse.
I've had the U-joints replaced on both sides, as well as both rear wheel bearings. The next step, I'm told, is having the differential rebuilt or replaced--but I want to make sure that nothing else could be causing this before I shell out for that.
Please, any help would be great--this is a great 'Vette, with this nagging problem

That sure sounds like the next logical step. I'm not an expert, but I've replaced three rears since I bought my 87. (drag race victims, NOT daily driver) The rear that I currently have in the car had a loud thumping when it was just rebuilt. It went away after two drag races. Now I'm just counting the days before it grenades itself!
