on cold starts the car is difficult to steer to the right, the steering returns to center or goes left smoothly. once the power steering fluid warms the car will steer to the right and left smoothly.
from what i have read i understand this is typical of a failing rack. with that i have a few questions:
how can i be certian it is the rack?
does a fluid change ever solve this issue?
the rack itself is not leaking nor are the bellows ripped, i assume there is an orifice or diverter which may be clogged or faulty. can that be repaired/replaced without the expense or hassle of removing/replacing rack?
go ahead and change the fluid. It can't hurt. If you change the rack, you will have to flush the entire fluid and replace it with new.
It should helpa minute amount, but I think you need a new rack anyway.
I would rather flush new or clean fluid than old discolored burned fluid with my new rack in place. how bout u?
