I really like the look of the stock sawblades on my 86, but I also really want a wider tire. Any idea how wide I can go with the stock 16" wheels? So far it looks like 255 is about it, but I'd really like to get around 275.

Not many companies make them, but there is (or was) a 275/45-16 size that will fit on a 9 1/2" wide wheel. Slightly larger tires will fit in the wheelwells with the stock wheels and not cause a problem.
A common upgrade is to a 275/40-17 tire, but for the most part, there is very little difference in treadwidth and diameter between that tire and a 255/50-16 tire.
