Default Disappointing car shows

I went to an all Chevy car show this past Sunday near home. It was sponsered by a local Corvette Club. The thing I noticed most was most of the Vettes there were C5's and C6's. It looked more like a new car lot than a Chevy or Corvette show. There were a few C1's to C4's there along with my 85. I don't know about some of you guys, but my idea of a car show is more along the lines of showing off your older cars to show how good they can still look. Looking at so many "newer" cars at one of these events just doesn't impress me all that much. Talking to a bunch of arrogant "new" Corvette owners isn't all that much fun either. You guys know the type.... full Corvette attire, matching Corvette chairs, new car window sticker ($50,000 to $60,000 or more) on the dash and usually the wife sitting there reading a novel as she is bored with the whole idea. Does anyone else see this?

Don't mind the new cars showing off, just wish more classics would show up. Most time just pass the new'ns up on the way to the old'ns...

Happens everywhere. Even on the street. Most of the time I find the show is run by a Vette Club and the clique that have the newer Vettes award their own. I know I am going to get slammed here but the CI-X was exactly the same way. My 35th was the only one there and was totally ignored by the "inner group".

I have not found the C5/C6 clique to be a problem. I know people with different model years and find most car people receptive to all. Car club people, that see each other often sometimes don't appear to be friendly to strangers, though not necessarily on purpose. We should all make an effort to be friendly to everyone.

that is for sure! you don't see to much of the early vintage vettes anymore at vette shows, the only reason is they are going
ncrs, and aren't driven on the roads anymore like years ago

The old cars are nice to look at, but the new cars are the ones to be in. That is why you don't see many vintage vettes on the road or at shows. Most are at home in the garage.

Do you go to the Hooters show on I 20 exit Hulen ?
I will be taking my White 95 383 LT4 there after I get it cleaned up from a long road trip !
I live near Granbury RD.

Planning on Drag Racing and car show at TMS July 3 but cleaning will begin in earnest after that.

I'm the Artic White w American TT 2's !

We don't have many problems with a lack of Corvettes around D/FW !
West side Cruisers have several 60's roadsters with big blocks I'd trade my left one and both 95's for !

First Corvette function I ever went to with my present car, the C5 owner next to me gestured to my craptacular C4 and asked, " Did that come painted that way?" That seemed to be about par for the course.

I know what you mean about the car shows. They look more like a new car lot than a place to show your talent for reconstruction and restoration. People don't seem to appreciate how much work it takes to build an old hotrod from scratch or to restore an old worn out car to like new [or better] condition. They seem to gravitate to the wealthy end of the lot and drool over the size of a guys bank account who doesn't have a clue what makes their high dollar car go. I could care less about trophies that go to the guy with the newest car that still has the dealer sticker on it. An Award should be a recognition of achievement in construction, paint & imagination. Half the time it goes to the ..."Oh look at me, I can afford a Learjet" guy.

Larry00,
Haven't been to the Hooters show there, mostly send the 67 GTA to the Sonic on Camp Bowie West, or even the CCC shows at the Birdville stadium. Seems like if I'm gonna "show" one of the rides, the 67 gets the call. The vette gets the nod for all the fun runs and any time I need some therapy

Will try to make the next Hooters show....
See ya!

The guys with their new cars don't bother me. I don't pay any attention to them. For me, a well preserved 1960s Rambler is much more interesting than a 2009 Corvette. Not much sweat, blood and tears in those new cars. The old cars, even the goofy old VWs have a certain soul to them.

They need to set a standard to determine what is stock and what is modified. It's hard to compete against another car that is chromed up, with different wheels and new interior with a car that's stock and all are competing in stock category. Though the this problem is more a problem in C-5 and C-6.

Around here its a lot like that too, I just ignore the newer vettes. I didn't come to the car show to look at the plastic decorating the engine bay, I came to look at the longtubes, valvecovers, carbs, blowers, aircleaners, and sometimes just admire the paint. You can't see that when the motor is covered by "Corvette" and "LS2" plastic.

On the plus side, we get a lot of 50-60s cars at the local shows, including some older(40s) bodies on dragster setups. Then I ran into a guy with a 95 bonneville running high 13s in the 1/4, seems like there's no end to imagination.

I went to a car show 30 years ago in my 65 396 and it was my last time in a show. For basically reasons said above. Oh 3 trailer queens took 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Nope, all old Corvettes aren't into the NCRS. There's the same goofy s**t that goes on there too. I was a member with the NCRS and member of the Western PA Corvette club for a lot of years. I quit both because of the clicks and the same type of s**t went on there too.

I took my Corvettes to car cruises a couple times each in the past 6, 7 years. Parked them then walked around looking at other cars and Corvettes. BS'n to some long time friends. Car cruise weren't me either after 2 years of going to them. Me and the wife went back to going to the cruises in my Tahoe, parking off to the side and looking around.

Things have changed over time. Old Corvettes and us old guys don't fit in with the new Corvettes and their owners. Hey, they never put a 396 in a Corvette. No no no, the last year for a 454 was in 1972, you put that 454 in your 1974. Hey what's that chip there, what's this, what's that. Get the f**k away from me and go study up on your Corvette history.

3 years ago I quit the car cruises. Now my Corvettes just go for a drive every now and then. I enjoy them that way. I don't need to show my cars off to anyone at a show or a cruise, I know they're nice. I certainly am not going to sit on a lounge chair and watch people looking at my cars. I bought my Corvettes to please me years ago, not to please anyone else. I was never a show off with them, I just drive them when I feel like it and enjoy the country rides on the twisty roads.

But that's just me, a 54 year old guy who has been in Corvettes for 44 years and owned my 65 for 34 years. For the car show, and car cruise people, if that's what floats your boat, hey more power to ya.

Oh, hahahaha, at car cruises with my 85 I got, why did you buy that! Are you going to part it out, you can make money on it. No azzhole I bought because I like it, it's a cool car and fun to drive.

I went to the local Corvette show at Ramp Chevrolet here on Long Island and its the same thing, C5's and C6's and a few very nice C2's. The majority were new cars and the people were as FOURSPEEDVETTE described. I was not impressed and haven't returned.

For those of you on the forum that live on Long Island or NYC even, there is a local car show in the Town of Islip every Saturday until Labor Day. Most of the cars are local people and everyone is friendly and knowledgable. So far, I bring the only C4 and it garners some attention mainly due to the paint and flamed hood. There has been a nice C3 and an original looking C1 there. I'd love to see a better showing of C4's so if anyone is game, let me know and I'll give you more details. BTW, there is also no $$$ needed like in some events I've been to, its just a local get together of car guys and gals.

I have never taken my car to a show. Any words of wisdom. How to do it. Tricks of the trade. Mine is a 95 Artic White with side pipes. Rather unique in that back bumper does not have the cut outs for the exhaust pipes. It looks as if it came from the factory that way. I am the second owner. It is in excellent t shape. Don't know if this car would fit in. I love it, but don't want to seem like I am showing off something that is not out of the ordinary.

Just have everything nice and clean inside and out even the tire treads. When you get the nit picker looker just let it go in one ear and out the other. Most of the people are normal and nice at car shows and cruises. It's that 1 or 2% that think they're car / Corvette experts that may get under your skin.

No brother Phil...You won't get slammed by me. I knew your 35th (like my 40th) would be the only anniversary cars there. Screw the "inner groups". I still have fun with the "down to earth" crowd that shows up. Hope to see you at the next CI. I plan on staying longer for the next one!

I think you hit the nail on the head Mike. I went to a show last Friday. There was a new ZR1 there and a Nissan GT-R. I got more conversation out of the GT-R owner than my fellow vette owner. I don't understand the arrogant attitude that some people who bring their cars to car shows have. If they don't like socializing with fellow enthusiasts, they need to do us all a favor and stay home.

Went to a car show last weekend and there were 4 corvettes showing. 2008,2005,2003 and my 93. The show was judged by the people showing their cars and i was shocked to take first place trophy. Goes to show we can win once in a while. I only go if the money goes to charity and for the conversation.
