Theres a kid that a see around town with an A4 Z28 Lt1 car. Me and a buddy saw him the other day and i guess he saw my car so he puts his car in 2nd and just lets the LTx slow him down coming up to a stop sign.
My buddy tells me that i should do the same thing around town since my car is louder than his and doesnt sound half bad. So i told him ' F that, im not gonna mess up my car to make a kid in a ugly 4 gen camaro say oh ****'. So my buddy tells me it wouldnt hurt it blah blah.
So we got into this ' discussion ' about it so here goes.. would it mess up my tranny or not? I have an 89 A4 and wouldnt be to worried about it but my car does have 220xxx miles on her. btw just got my ac removed, new runners ported plenum and LTs put on her that flow into 2.5 i believe with no cats or mufflers that exits the center with LT1 tips so if i do put my car in 2nd and let the L98 slow me down there will be more than just the kid in the Z28 sayin ol **** lol.
No such word as de-acceleration. Its deceleration.
Down shifting your auto xmsn won't hurt it, but it will add wear to the clutch pack and shorten its life.
Next time you see him in light to light traffic just stick it in second gear when you start off. It will then start in first like usual, but will not shift higher than second. You can go up to about 70mph in second gear so light to light would be no problem.

On the street???? Sell the Vette and get a Honda. Then you can really impress the Camaro owner. And don't forget the baseball hat gets turned sideways.
It's called engine brake. I use it all the time too. I like how the exhaust sounds when engine braking to a stop. And no, it won't damage your trans as long as you don't do it form very high speeds. Engine brake is mentioned in the owners manual, for use to slow down going downhill without using the brakes.
