1990 temperature gage
Today I picked up a 1990 Coupe with 29,000 miles on it. It ran fine on the hwy but in town it was getting really hot. I was concerned so I took it to a shop and found the gage seems to not be working right. Where would you start to fix it. Is there a sensor I can replace easy?

How did they verify this? Im thinking a bad thermostat or blocked radiator or? What temperature did it get upto? Did the check gauges light come on? Was the AC on. Lots of possibilities

The Gauge in the car got upto 260. We plugged a snap on scanner to the car with it running and the cars computer showed the car running at 198 to 208 with the car gage showing about 235 to 245 if I had to guess. SO I take it the cars gage is bad some how. Just not sure if that can be replace or if it would be something else. I will say seeing that temp around the 260 scared the crap out of me.
