I have read on a few posts that you should take out the radiator and clean the condensor since it sucks up everything on the road. I was running 220-230F when in slow traffic so I figured it was time, or it couldnt hurt.
The instructions by Lars are pretty good, the 7 mm bolts where a pain in the front.
But after removing the radiatior noticed a bunch of twigs in on the front that I tried hosing off. I then needed to pick them off since they were connected.
Then I discovered, these werent twigs, I had a dead frog skeleton attached/baked onto my radiator.
All is clear on both and the car is back on the road. ANyone else find something wierd in their radiator?
I disassembled the radiator shroud / stack in my ZR-1 yesterday, and found a huge pile of leaves, tree bark, twigs, dirt, pebbles, piece of a fertilizer bag, etc. But the best part was finding a blowgun attachment for an air compressor at the bottom of the core support!
On my 89, it was only a quarter full of leaves. So I say that is pretty good for 20 years as I say the radiator is probably original so it hasn't been cleaned before.
All I had to do was remove the top shroud, then used an extension on my shop vac, and sprayed water to get out any small crud. I know some say you have to pull the radiator.
On my 96, I had what appeared to be a small bird nest, or lots of twigs of hay located at the fan spot. After removal, I decided to install a new radiator since this was the original. It would have taken forever to hand pick all the crap out of it.
