Hey guys, me again. I went thorough the A\C diagnostics. No codes were found. I checked all the fuses, they are all OK. Dont' see any broken vacuum lines. The fan blows hard but not a hint of A\C. So, the freon must have leaked out while not being used? It was cold last time I drove it a few months ago. Again, this is my '96 which I only drive a few times a year. 32K miles on it. I dread taking it to a shop. Any other suggestions?

Only a few times a year? I have to drive mine at least twice a week. Anyway back to your question. I have a 96 also, and the AC was working fine until just 3 weeks ago. It was not putting out enough cold air compared to my other 2 vehicles. So I took it in to a shop and had the AC checked out. It was low by about 1 lb (system holds 2 lbs). They also put in a green die to check for leaks. None showed up after running the car for 10 minutes so off I went with my vette. Any future potential leaks will show up with the green die as I drive it.
I rather have a shop do it who has the right equipment that will pull a vacuum on it to suck out any potential moisture, at the same time check for leaks.
I was having some trouble with my compressor cycling off and on frequently. Also not cooling as well as I thought it should. I got one of those cheap gauges and added some refrigerant to my 1996. Very simple. My only problem was the valve leaked a little after I removed the coupler from the low side port. I took the coupler off an on a few times until the valve stopped leaking. I haven't had any problems for about a year. Forum member SunCr is an a/c expert.
