On my 94, had my resonator cut out and all new piping into magnaflow mufflers put in. Tons of resonance, same pitch from above idle to redline, smooth acceleration, and sounded just mean at idle. Had an x pipe off ebay welded in in place of resonator and now idle sounds a bit smoother, drone did come down a bit on the inside and out, but most importantly right around 3000 rpms the pitch and tone change and power just washes on. Wouldn't say it makes it tons faster, but makes it noticeably quiter and you feel a drastic change in the rate of acceleration past a certain rpm. Still, I just drove from PA to VA and back and would've love to had magnaflow's dual in dual out muffler instead. Its supposedly a dual in muffler that crosses over like an x pipe inside then had dual exit. Probably woulda made it a lot more quite inside.
X Pipe is a cheap excellent Idea for two very good reasons.
The way your engine fires it is high on gasses on one side then the other .
The X Pipe spreads the gasses or equalizes them giving the engine better exhaust exiting thus less back pressure and better performance.
The other is resonation and the X Pipe by equalizing the pressure also reduces the resonation due to lowered pressures.
May be louder at the back I outrun the sound [ LOL ] but inside there is a difference.
I have a Dr Gas X Pipe and T.P.I.S. Long Tubes and 3 in custom mandrel bent exhaust on my Hot Rod and for the small cost it works great.
