So my insurance broker insisted on an inspection of my C4 before I could get coverage. I spent the $150 and the mechanic says its in great shape...except your steering rack is leaking and the rear wheel bearings are worn. I phone up Western Corvette (Calgary) and he says $1800 to fix. Man am I bummed out. I don't have that much money. But I love my vette so I am selling my TV to pay for repairs.
For anyone planning on buying a used vette, always get the inspection BEFORE you buy the car. I got a good deal on the car but repairs will break me.
Pictures to follow next week:
1) Empty TV stand
2) Me enjoying my vette again

Tough on the cost to fix, missing tv, but will watch for the pics of you with the big grin driving it..
Most insurance companies in the US wouldn't dream of asking you for an inspection or repairs before they wrote you coverage. As a matter of fact, most here will take most any ridiculous appraisal that shouldnt be worth the paper it's written on.
I'd find another insurance co and if your mechanical issues aren't to bad maybe you can limp by for a while and save some $ by shopping around or doing it yourself. Good luck! You ain't missing nothing on TV!
That repair quote is ridiculously high, about twice what it should be in fact. Wish you were closer and we could do it for the price of the parts and a six pack. Shop around for a better shop.

I agree w/ others: Find a different insurance company comes to mind, unless they're (by far) the less expensive.
As for the leaking seal on the steering rack and some wear on the wheel bearings...so what!? What the hell does that have to do with getting insurance??
So, dittos to "get another insurance agency", drive it and enjoy it and do the repairs as needed; not b/c some mechanic that wants to charge you 2x what it is worth to fix some things that are fine but just not "perfect".
All of the stuff you mentioned are DIY kinds of items. Definitely keep the TV, tell the mechanic to "F.O.", and if the insurance co has an issue with either or both of the minor (non-safety) findings, then tell them to "F.O." as well!
NO. brake pulling is caused by (A) bad rotor,(B) bad pads, (C) a caliper piston thats sticking or( D), air in the sytem. PLEASE get this fixed before driving much. I was in head-on,caused by this problem (the other guys car). 3 dead teens, out having a good time as kids do. Me, a limp for the rest of my life. It happened in 81. Fix it! This is ,by far, the most serious issue.

In the province of Alberta most if not all insurance companies require
an inspection if the car being titled is 10 years old or over. Western Corvette is a reputable but expensive shop. To the OP, if you can source the parts yourself and source out a qualified mechanic to do it under the table, well it might save you a lot of money.
