91 Radio Dead
I have a Bose in my 91 coupe, which worked fine until recently. The radio will not turn on, the antenna will not go up, and nothing can be heard from any speaker. The face of the radio does light up and show the time (incorrectly) when the power button is pushed. Any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.
That almost sounds like a bad ground. A fuse either works or not. Unless you have corrosion.

Sounds like the CDM/tuner module's gone ****-up. It's the central processor for these damned things. For your year, it's located under the dash on the passenger side (hush panel) and is a PITA to access. You darn near have to be a midget contortionist to get to it.
I'm thinking about seriously yanking all the Blose crap, by-passing it with one of those wiring harness thingies and getting a decent JVC radio/CD/cassette player with aftermarket speakers.

You gentlemen need to go to the Audio section of the forum and read the C4 sticky at the top of the section. Lots of good info there. Also, the is a forum on car audio that would be worth looking at. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I have had my system in and out several times.
BTW, no need to buy a harness from anyone. The C4 FAQ will show you how to hook up your new head unit.

I replaced the Bose stuff in my 90. I did by the $12.00 harness so I would not have to cut any wires on the original harness.
I don't know about 91 , but on the 90 you will need to add the resistors so the SES light will not come on.
I did replace and rewire all speakers.

You also may want to try looking on this site. www.carstereohelp.com there is a lot of info. Factory car stereo repair inc. they are bose specialists.

That's the route I intend to go, too. I'm sick and tired of nickle-and- diming myself away with the Bose crap. Does the wire harness by-pass the Delco CDM/tuner module and allow the power antenna to energize?
We have the cd cassette radio units rebuilt original for $359.00 exchange. Thanks

Yes the antenna works fine. in fact you can leave the rec. box in place , just unplug it and plug the harness in.
