I have a 90 convertible with the Bose tape only stereo. It makes a popping noise now when I shut the car down. The radio didn't work after the first time it popped, but it started working again.
It there an easy fix or is it giving me an excuse to install a modern system? The previous owner had the speakers rebuilt.
The Bose stereo is very expensive to repair since there are a lot of individual components that will all eventually fail.
It's a lot cheaper and easier to replace the entire Bose stereo with a modern reliable head unit, amp, component speakers and subwoofer which will out perform the Bose in every way.
it is commun with Boze, the amp within the speaker is defective, even with the radio "OFF" power goes to the speakers....replacing them cost $$$ and you still won't have a cd player, i have replace my indash boze with a panasonic but you also have to replace all speakers as they are 4 ohms on the boze and won't work...
There's a separate amp relay too? along with the head and the tuner. Why did they have to make it so complex....
Anyhow, it's working fine for the moment, but it sounds like this is my excuse to spec out some modern stereo equipment. Wish I had the money the previous owner put into the speakers. That would have been most of the cost of a whole new system.
