Default security light = what makes it come on ?

hey guys,

my 84 crossfire has been acting up the last fiew days.

the security light will come on and then go off randomly.
if it comes on before I can start up the car,
then im pretty much stuck like chuck, until it decides to go off.

so for me to track down this issue,
I need to know possible causes for it to come on ?
1 - is there a key / fob / or clicker im suposed to have to turn it off on a 84 ? I dont think 84's have the vats system do they ?
2 - maby it could be wiring to my ignition switch ?
3 - is it on some sort of timer that will automaticly shut it off in a fiew muinets ?
could it be part of the saftey arm attached to my automatic shifter ? - im guessing it might be that, as I have mine un hooked at the moment, and has been for a good fiew months due to the plunger arm becoming frozen in place and not allowing the shifter to move.
un hooking it from the mecanisim allowed me to get out of park,
so I figured that piece was some sort of extra saftey thing I diddnt want anymore, but if its not going to allow me to start my car now,
I aparently need to fix / replace it - or by pass the system if possible.

please add any insight to how / or why my security light randomly decides to come on now. its quite annoying to have to fight the car to get her to start up for work in the morning.

thanks
Brian84

also I can take picutes of any thing you guys need to see,
like that saftey plunger that was attached to my auto shifter,
and or any wiring - if it might help.

Not sure on 84 but newer ones have a resistor chip in the ignition key that gives the computer a resistance value. If that value changes via a worn, dirty, condensating key or ignition then puter says "no go". I had mine act up on a very humid day. Came out of house with cold AC, cold keys, to steam, key sweated, car no starty.

I believe the newer ones security systems are tied into the "park nuetral" switch, or what you're calling "safety switch" but I'm not really remembering to what extent. It's supposed to cut power to starter if car is not in park or nuetral. I'm saying you may be onto something there. Do a search or go to tech tips and see what you can find.

The driver door lock key switch is what activates or disarms the alarm. Make sure it's all clean in there as well.

Not a solution, but since no one was responding, it's a bump anyway.

I ended up un hooking my battery for half an hour,
and un locked the driver door with the key to "un activate" the system.
car started.

no security light on.

im hoping that it stays off. man what a pain in the butt.

was also going to check my horn relay, and also some junk in/behind the driver info pannel
sending you a pm bob.
thanks guys.

but I would still love to know all the diffrent possibilitys that could cause the system to "activate" it self.
