So I'm driving down the road, I-670 in Columbus, and a cop pulls up next to me in the left lane, slows down, and pulls in behind me. Since traffic in that lane is going 50ish in a 65, I pull out into the left lane and accelerate to about 64-65mph.
Then come the lights...
Cop pulls me over and so I do the good citizen move: hands on the wheel, car off, said "sir," etc... He tells me that I have an "illegal" rear license plate cover :bs the thing is nearly clear... Then he mentions the fact that I do not have a plate in front either. So I go into this random story about how I didn't know the little box up front came out for the license plate... etc, etc...
Didn't work.
The guy gives me a :cuss ticket. This is the second one in a month for this :cuss . I really don't want to put the plate on, but at $70.00 a pop, this is getting a little expensive. :mad :mad The cop was giving me some attitude, and I'm pretty sure he did this just to tick me off a little... :mad :mad
Anybody have any ideas for making a front plate look a little less :U ?
I feel the same way...don't want to run a front plate...just doesn't look right on a vette! Some people have said to keep the other with you in the car and to say that you had just been in a car show the weekend before and hadn't had a chance to put it back on yet. Oh well..sorry to hear about your ticket. Gotta love Ohio!
He probably drives a RUSTANG! LOL
The State of Ohio required Two plates, the max. fine is $100.00
When driving around town, I display my front licpl. When at an event, I put the CORVETTE plug in!!
Try getting Collector plates for your car - all vettes are eligible no matter
what year...that way when you get stopped...you can tell him/her that you are on your way to a car show, etc!!!
Stop crying and put the plate on. I ran without a front in Ohio for 10 years and when I found out what the fine was, I installed it. Shortly afterward I was stopped for a 34 in a 25 and the cop was amazed that I had a front plate on. He was ready to write that too.

Nobody is "crying" about anything... I would simply prefer to leave it off beacause I think the car looks better without one, as do most people on this forum. Also, the first time I was stopped, the cop said that he couldn't get a lock on me because I had no front plate, so it provides some valuable "stealth" to laser, which is what he was running. I like that idea. :yesnod:
hey man just slap the front plate on and get a front license plate cover from ecklers they are like the original cover only they are clear they match the lines and all and look good, i know mr. mojo has one and it looks great i am going to get one.
if you don't want to do this then atleast put a plate up in the windshield or something
I got a front cover made like the factory one but is clear. It matches the body lines & you can see the plate thru it. I used some chrome fasteners that look like miniature spinners on the plate. I've gotten a few compliments on it. The cover is about $25 at Corvette Corner / Cars 2NV on the south side of 161 (Granville Dublin Rd.) somewhere west of Cleveland Ave- at Karl Rd. I think. They used to be on Morse Rd. but moved a year or so ago.

Is it one of those "anti-laser" covers?
Nope, it's the kind you can buy at any auto store. It just has a slight tint to it. A very slight tint. I've been running this very same plate cover for 5 years and have never had a problem...
Sorry to hear about that. You would think they would have something better to do than to pull you over becauseof the clear cover on the back and give you a ticket for no front plate. They just don't look as good. :(
That cop was a dick!
Whenever a cop gets behind me or any where near me I make a left/right.
No front plate is being enforced for the red light camera. If you run a red a camera takes your photo and sends a ya a ticket. Needs both plates to work.
My car is tagged with my brothers addresss out of state, a state with only one plate. The fees are a 10th of California. UPS does it why caint we?
Anyway avoid them at all costs. State cops are the worst.
Move to Arizona, no front plates, and most of the traffic cops are real people as opposed to :jester
I have been pulled over three times and each time I deserved a ticket. What I got was "that is too nice of car to wreak", so slow down and just a warning.
I just leave the front plate on so I don't have to deal with it. I also have both plates covered with tinted covers that are pretty dark, haven't had any problems yet.
