any new tires will be better than 22 years old ones... but i did installed kumho's on my previous 87 and they were great but they wear faster in rear i have no idea why
I put Kumho Ecsta on the front and the Falken Ziex in the rear.
The rears went away really fast. The Kumho's are doing fine. They do grab the grooves in the road if they drop below 34psi. I have to keep them up at 36psi and that seems to help.
I'd like to try another tread pattern in the front. The Falkens have that really high pitched squeal when/if they spin....but they sound normal if they are sliding sideways under acceleration
I previously had the Kumhos on my '85, not bad for the money but they've been discontinued in that size. I would go with BF Goodrich G-sport
I put BFG's on my '87 Convertible a few years back and hva been very happy with their overall performance. Not many choices though in the 16 inch sizes anymore.
I put Khumos on mine and did not get the wear I expected. Wore out too fast and were not driven aggressively. In addition, I have some front end shake that came on as they wore. Front end people (several different) have gone through the front end and find nothing loose or out of spec so it's down to the tires. I won't put that brand back on.
Thanks for all the help. The Gatorbacks are just a little hard, but they still look real good.I just drive for the fun of it,no high speed or nothing like that. I live in Cincinnati Ohio so time is a little short. Don't want to get it wet or dirty.
