I have a 1988 Corvette convertible which I normally drive only during the days. But, the other day I was driving at dusk, so I turned the lights on and they started to stick while popping up, but on the second attempt they went up, but after a short while, one started back down. I couldn't get them both to stay up for more than a 10-15 seconds. The last time I drove it at night (about 2 years ago), they worked fine.
Is this something I need to take to dealership to fix or is there a simple adjustment that I can make to correct?
Bushings/gears in the motor are worn out and aren't allowing the healights to rotate. The gears are probably stripped or the bushings are broken. Cheap fix at a place that knows what they are doing.
I found the tech section and the appropriate "Sticky". Thanks a lot. But the pictures don't display on the messages. How do I see the pictures? Is that a set up option when I log into the forum.
Thanks for your reply. Is the picture above your reply a picture of the gear in question?
Yes. You can buy them in plastic or bronze (in the pic). Pretty cheap and easy. Just be cautious of the (#4?) screws holding the motor cover on. They break pretty easily....ask me how I know this
