The idea is to use a randon orbit polisher. Waxing by hand or cheap non random devices will leave swirl marks. Random polishers do not.

Hmm, hand job and buffing. Yikes, sort of goes hand in hand

I have a PC, & I have found that I get the same results by hand waxing.

Although I don't use it as much with my current car, when I owned a bright red '87 with some cob webbing but a shinny paint, I had good luck with a 9inch Sears Orbital buffer. It used bonnets that I purchased separately. I started with 1500 micro cut called Finesse It II by 3M. Then I applied 3M's dark swirl remover with the buffer (new bonnet). And I would finish with 3M's hand glaze (4 hours to complete). After a few years of this approach (spring and fall) the paint looked amazing. I did not use wax so the true paint and clear coat showed through. The car spent little time in the sun so I was OK with no wax. The orbital buffer will not burn through the paint like a polisher can if used improperly around body panel edges.

I bought Griot's 6" random orbital polisher kit several years ago. They use several different foam pads to polish, wax and buff. Their polishes are very mild and it takes a while .... but I've removed many scratches in the clear coat with no problems at all.

Their machine is great for the amature like me because you simply cannot burn through the paint
