Looking to replace original GSC's (driver's front threadworn on outside). Looking at Firestone Firehawk SZ50's. I was also wondering if anyone had any information about Nitto NT 555 Extrene Performance such as comfort, road noise, handling(dry only vette never seen rain or snow) or anything else of importance. Taking all opinions.
The Firestone's are a fantastic tire... I've had the newer ones (The EP's) on my 86 and the original non-EP's on my 95. Not a single complaint... great traction wet/dry, quiet and wear well.
It's true, the Firehawk is a great tire. I also happen to like the Michelin Pilots Sports and the Pilot XGTZ-4. You can't go wrong with any of these tires for the street.
I had the Michelin Pilot XGT Z4s. They were a awesome tire. Great in the rain and lasted a long time. Now I have the Pilot Sports because the XGT doesn't come in 315s :nonod:
I really like the Firestones, I put on a pair of XGT-Z4's after the Firestones to see if I liked them better...the XGT's are nice, but a lot louder than the Firestones and grip is about the same. I usually see the Firestones cheaper as well...I have to give another recommendation for the SZ50's!
After what I've learned, I'm going with the Firestone SZ50's next time. :yesnod:
As a word of warning about the Nitto 555TR's, they make for a pretty rough ride. They're loud too. Their main purpose is a drag tire, that you don't have to change out before coming home from the strip. I have a friend with them on his C5 and the tread is nearly gone at 10k miles.
