Any mods that directly affect air and fuel trim past the stock settings can benefit from advanced chip tuning. Cam, heads, intake, and headers are the common ones. List what you are thinking of doing or have done you will get lots of help

In almost all cases, it is a radical change in the cam that will require a tune or change in the chip. Heads, intake, exhaust in about 95% of the cases can be handled by the existing chip. These changes can be handled...but you might not get 100% yeild from the stock chip. You will get better performance as the chip is custom tuned to your modifications.

Just change exhaust, don't worry about a new tune. Just change intake...again don't worry about the tune. The L98 benefits most from exhaust changes....now combine this with a good set of heads and you may want to consider a tune.

Default MAF vs. MAP

Your 86 uses a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor which has the ability to react to a wider range of modifications than the MAP engines do. So, you have a little more latitude as far as exhaust changes, cat changes, intake, cams, etc.

However, there is a limit to the changes in intake and outtake even a MAF motor can withstand, and having a qualified turner check it out would be money well spent. The last thing you want to do is hurt the engine, especially if there is a pre-existing lean condition unrelated to the engine mods you do...Ask me how I know.

Well for now im gona be getting full length headers and a borla exhaust, not entirely sure if i need a tune for that because on my honda i got it some new headers and exhaust and it required no tune, the existing chip adjusted itself, but like i said i dont know how it works for a vette. Later on down the road i plan to get a DFI super ram kit from Accel which has everything i need including a fuel pump, sensors, and chip tunned for the kit. What im trying to avoid is overpaying and having two chips, buying a chip to tune for the headers and exhaust, then buy the kit and have an extra chip lying around and payed for it becuase i cannot remove it from the kit.

No tune needed for headers & exhaust only bolt them on and go
