Friend of mine has an '87 vert witht he vynyl window that needs to be replaced. He would like to replace it with glass. Anyone do this before? Pointers? Direction? Where can I find the glass?
You cannot replace the window in the vert top, it is sewed in and part of the top, if you unsew it you will never get it stretched tight enough again.
Having said that you can get a new top with the glass rear window, ebay is a good place to shop if on a budget. You then have to get a kit to convert the convertable frame to one that will fold the right way for the glass window. I checked on this one time and seems like mid america had them for like $250 for the conversion kit, don't hold me to that though its been a while. I looked at it and it was going to total up to ~$700 or so to do it with me installing the new top and conversion kit so I decided to just wait and maybe someday buy a hardtop.... still waiting on that hard top.
What he said. Pricey, something of a conversion, the last replacement top I had the new vinyl one put in, the next time I may go for the conversion. Three weeks after I put the new top on I forgot the pillow, and the new window was scratched by the time I put the top back up.
