Anyone have any idea how much it costs to get a Smoothline Hardtop? I also here they are lighter than the GM factory one, is this true? When installing the Hard Top does the convertible top fold back for the winter or to you remove it totally?

The Smoothline top doesn't have the internal support that the GM top has. If you contact them online they will email their current pricing. I think it was about $1200-1400a while back.
I ended up finding a GM top near NYC for $800 (12 hour round trip). A local shop painted it for $245. I really like the look. I never did care for the greenhouse look on the Coupes.
I know that the 89 hardtop passed the role over requirements for a hard top car. Makes the car stiffer than the coup. and I can't find one anywhere close. But still looking.
I got a Gm top. When its on the convertible tops folds back. But I removed my cloth top for good. The hardtop weighs around 75lbs. and the cloth top weighed around 55lbs. So my car only gain 20lbs.
The car is way stiffer than before. No more creaking or shaking, this car is a rock.
I paid $600 for my top and it was in excellant condition. Go Gm, the Smoothline top only weighs less and costs more but it does nothing for safety and strenght.
your car wont be over weight with both tops on. you wont notice the 55 lb difference nor will your car. if you remove the soft top you cant lock the car when you go out with the top down. i removed the soft top on my 72 and got caught out in a thunder shower. i put up an umbrella till the rain passed and went home and re installed the soft top. a tank of gas weighs more than 55 pounds.

I only removed my top because I never cared for the top down while driving. And this top is on for good. I wouldn't recommend removing the top for anyone else. I put my car on a diet. I always make sure the parts that go on are lighter than the ones that come off. This always doesn't work. Since my new top weighed around 75lbs I didn't want to have 120lbs invested in two tops. So off came the cloth top. The 55lbs does matter in drag racing. It's dead weight to me.
