Clear targa top seperating HELP
I have just about brought my 1985 back to like new state, i notice now that i can drive her that when i get over 70 there is a wind noise near where the acrylic clear top meets the windshield by the front passenger corner. I removed the top tonight to inspect and i found that the source of the noise is that the top is not secured all the way around, there is a sport right around that round front pasenger corner of about 4 inches that is i push from the inside i can see the acrylic leave the frame
The top is in MINT shape - how do i correct this without risking having the top broken by removing the entire piece, the rest of it is on rock solid. I am just concerned that when i take it to atlanta at 75 mph for over three hours it will loosen up worse and potentially fly off
Please advise
Robert

Mine has been like that for years, and at high speeds. But yours could separate and be different then mine. I would drive it if I were you. You can try to glue it but that has not worked with mine and it re-separates. The original glue is very expensive, made by Fusor. You can send it to Melrose tops for a new top at $300.
Go to the automotive paint store and get the Fusor panel adhesive. Yes its expensive but they have top quality stuff. The mix gun is the expensive part but some shops will let you borrow or rent one.

Hope this helps.
Mine is in perfect shape including the weatherstripping. I actually don't think it is the one that came with the car as it is too perfect. I also can see where someone tried to correct this in the past.
A body shop here told me to go buy some 3M 8609 urethane but i am worried about making more of a mess than anything else. This thing is on rock solid everywhere except that quarter and i drive it today and it makes no noise below about 68 mph. I am thinking i should just leave it. I have a long trip to take to Atlanta for the petit lemans and i think for the trip down i will use a black tape to create a seamless area between the roof and front windshield just so there is no stress on that trip
Does that make sense

I guess as long as it doesn't leak? My Roof Panel Moulding is coming of at the right front edge allowing it NOT to seal at the Weatherstrip.I really have to send it to Melrose. Are they the Best anybody Know?
Kinda makes you wonder, there are three threads on separated frames currently running. One said his was an Astro top, wonder about the others.
Dennis, who made your top? Is it OEM? The only seperation problem I had was when I forgot to bolt mine down and the whole targa flew off. Now ya know why I bought fiberglass too, lol. Survivability and you dont have to worry about a bad glue job showing thru!
