I recently bought a 90 vette from Carsille PA at the corvette show and are having some problems with the headlights. When the headlight switch is on the lights are on but as soon as i activate the highbeems the headlights go off all together and all the lights on the vehicle start flickering every few seconds. when i hit the switch to turn off the high beems things go back to normal. im not sure if the switch on the dash needs top be replaced or the blinker/cruise/wiper assy with the highbeem switch on it needs to be replaced. or it may be something else. if anyone has any info on my problem it would be most helpful. thanks

Wow, where to start? Which one did you buy? I posted up pics of many of the C4s for sale there so maybe I have a pic of yours already.
You really need a service manual with the electrical section (I think it is a separate book). It could be a bad ground somewhere but could also be a short that could result in a fire. If memory serves me correct I think the pre 91 C4s had a problem with shrinkage of the insulation on the wiring harness under the dash causing the bare wires to touch each other.
Maybe someone who has experienced this will step in and help. Sorry to hear about that.

electrical problems are hard enough to troubleshoot actually working on the car let alone on a forum, but a preliminary stab at isolating components would be to disconnect one headlight at a time. see if problem continues with left headlight unplugged. if it's still bad, try reconnecting the left and unplugging right headlight. if it lights up the hi beam, try replacing the unplugged headlight. if nothing changes, maybe headlight relay? or the hi beam switch?
