Hi my names jack. I was driving a 2003 WRX that was recently totaled. I'm interested in the C4, but i dont really know anything about it. what could i get for around 5-7K. And what are the most effective for the price mods that are available. I am interested in a side exhaust set up, but i havnt been able to find any websites for those yet, so do any of you know a good one?
If you are interested in a C4, buy the newest with the least miles that you can afford with money left over for mods. Make it right first before you turn it into a ricer. IMHO Welcome to the Forum!

Reason: The Welcome
Buy the best car you can with the money you have. Later go for the mods and you have a good car to work with. For 5k to 7k you can find a pretty good car so good luck.
What the guys above said, and pay particular attention to the condition of the paint and the interior. C4 interior parts are pricey, and depending on where you live, paint is too. You can easily spend $7K or more redoing the inside and painting the car.
I would rather have a well cared for higher mile car with a nice interior and paint than a low mile car with ratty interior and paint. You can rebuild a transmission for less than a new set of door panels.
Try to find a car with few owners and maintenance records if you can.

In answer to your question .... if you buy an older C4 with the L98 engine your biggest bang for the buck may be a new exhaust system however if you buy an newer C4 with the LT1 you will already have a non restrictive true dual exhaust ... then your best bang for the buck will be long tube headers and the LT4 hot cam kit........be advised because the Lt1 was a fairly high performance engine for the time .... there are no inexpensive mods that will gain you significant increases in power. A rear gear change will however give you much better seat of the pants performance.
This web site will provide you with a lot of info on the changes/improvements from year to year
I gess the reicerness shows through in all that i do, i just cant escape it lol. I test drove a 93 convertible, just to get a general idea of their ride, i.e. handling and speed. I was pleasently surprised since i didn't like the way any of the other armericans felt, i.e. R/T charger, G8, New and 90s Mustang Gt. This was definetly in a different class. It was green with a tan interior. I liked the color but does it come with any other interior colors, It matched good, but i just dont like tan. I was planning on racing seats anyway, but how much do new carpet and door panels go for? Also what is optimual wheel size, i was thinking 17x8 in the front and 17x10 in the back, is this good or are there any better sizes i should look for? I am considering these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-Co...Q5fAccessories what do you think? Also i like the 80's back bumper, more agrressive than 90's, but i want a 90's because of reilability and stock power, how hard and pricy would it be to do a conversion?

Performance may not matter to you but if it does, don't buy heavy reproduction rims. They will lower your acceleration by added weight. Also running a tiny 8" rim in front will make the car corner poorly. Maybe read a suspension book?

I wish I lived where some of you guys live. $5000 to $7000 where I live will only buy high mileage cars that need alot of attention. Even on early C4's a good one worth keeping will cost you. I wouldn't consider anything under $12000 for my "85" because of it's near perfect condition. That will probably raise a few eyebrows here, but as they say, everyone has their price!
I would assume since you had a WRX, and now are looking for a corvette IMO do your self a favor, and figure out the balance between...
1.price
2.year wanted (a lot changed in 12 years)
3.condtion
4.mods (this economy is allowing for some great cars up for sale, and the c4 can become a real snore fast) + parts and labor can get expensive
Optimal wheel size = 17x9.5 on all 4 corners. late model year C4's with the Z07 option came with the same size on all 4 corners which is nice in that you are able to rotate from front to back.
A complete carpet set will run you about $500 - $600.
I believe that there was only one company offering an aftermarket sidepipe kit called power-effects but they are no longer in production. every once in a while you find one for sale on flebay. There are a couple of guys here on the forum that have them and really seem to like them.
Other than tan the most common interior color was black. there were a few with white and a few with red. The green exterior generally came with tan or black interior.
Don't forget the enormous wing and the fart can mufflers (Hint...you will need two)
Thats an interesting thought, but i dont think that type of muffler would fit or is even made for a side exhaust set up. even though it is the most unrestricted type, since air flows straight through it in stead of having to pass through multiple "S" chambers like in a stock muffler, so there is little to no deadening of the sound either. And I dont think that I will need the extra down force generated by the wing just yet. I am still no supper familiar with the Vette, but I am assuming it's shape is aerodynamic enough to create a low enough coefficient of drag that should firmly plant it's self during daily driving/swerving. But i might purchase 1 once i have it track ready.
Does any one have good suggestions on what upgrades that i "SHOULD" do first?
Hey Bandit, That post was just having some fun with you. NO ONE but NO ONE puts fart can mufflers or big wings on Corvettes unless they want to be laughed at. Corvettes of any year don't need that type of garbage on them. Corvettes were not intended to be transformed into riceburners.
